Rump state

A rump state is a nation or area that doesn't have all of the parts it used to have. Usually, it's because it's been cut off from the main part, which might be another country or something else entirely. For example, Russia used to rule Ukraine, but now Ukraine is a separate country and Russia only has a part of Ukraine. That part of Ukraine is called a rump state.
