ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ryūka

Ryūka is a fancy and beautiful Japanese style of poetry that is also called "tanka". It is like a tiny poem that has only 31 syllables, which are like little beats or sounds that you make when you say a word. In ryūka, the poem is divided into five lines that have a certain number of syllables in each line. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, the third line has 5 syllables again, the fourth line has 7 syllables and the fifth line has 7 syllables too.

People write ryūka about lots of different things like nature, feelings, or important moments in their lives. They use words that are very special and often describe things in a way that makes you feel like you can see, hear, or touch them. Writing ryūka is like painting a picture with words. It is a very cool way to express yourself and share your thoughts and emotions with others.
