So, kiddo, have you ever heard of a place called Okinawa? It's a little island in Japan that used to be its own kingdom a long long time ago. People who live there are called Ryukyuans.
Some Ryukyuans came to America a long time ago and became what we call Ryukyuan Americans. They are people of Ryukyuan descent who live in America now.
But just like how you might have different traditions and culture from your friends, Ryukyuan Americans also have different foods they like to eat and ways they like to celebrate holidays. It's all part of their unique cultural heritage.
Does that make sense, kiddo?
