Okay kiddo, let's talk about Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. It's a sad story but also a beautiful one.
You know how we get sick sometimes and have to stay in bed until we feel better? Well, Sadako was a little girl who got sick too, but her sickness was different. She got something called leukemia, which made her very sick and weak.
One day, Sadako's best friend told her about something called origami. That's when you take a piece of paper and fold it into different shapes, like a bird or a boat. Sadako loved doing origami and she was really good at it.
One day, Sadako's friend told her about a legend. The legend said that if you fold a thousand paper cranes, you can make a wish and it will come true. So Sadako decided to fold a thousand paper cranes because her wish was to get better and be able to run and play like she used to.
Sadako started folding paper cranes every chance she got, even when she was feeling really tired. She was determined to make her wish come true. But sadly, before she could finish folding a thousand cranes, Sadako passed away.
Her family and friends were very sad, but they also wanted to honor her memory. So they finished folding the thousand paper cranes for her and put them in a special place.
Today, people all around the world fold paper cranes in honor of Sadako and in the hope of bringing peace to the world. It's a way of remembering a brave and determined little girl who never gave up on her wish to get better.
