San Francisco cable car system

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen those big cars that people ride on top of in San Francisco? Those are the cable cars! They help people get around the city by going up and down some really steep hills.

So how do they work? Well, there are these big cables underground that move the cars. The cable car has a grip that can grab onto the cable and hold on tight. When the grip is attached to the cable, it pulls the car along with it. The cable is always moving, so the cars can keep going as long as they hold on.

There are some people who work on the cable cars called gripmen. They have to be very skilled to make sure the car stays on the cable and doesn't go too fast or too slow. They also have to be careful when turning corners or going up and down hills.

The cable cars have been around for a really long time, since the late 1800s. They used to have a lot more cable cars in the city, but now there are only three lines left. People from all around the world come to San Francisco just to ride on the cable cars and see the sights. It's a really special part of the city that you should definitely check out someday!
