ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Satellite flare

Have you ever seen a shiny thing in the sky that moves really fast and reflects light? That shiny thing might be a satellite up in space! When the sun shines on that satellite, it can reflect the sun's light back down to Earth, and that reflection might be really bright and look like a flare in the sky - kind of like when you look at the sun and see a big bright spot. This is called a satellite flare. It's like a shooting star, but instead of a star, it's just a little metal thing way up high that people sent up there to do cool stuff like take pictures and communicate with other people far away. So the next time you see a bright shiny thing zip by in the sky, think about how cool it is that people made that thing and launched it all the way into space!
