ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scenario test

A scenario test is like playing pretend, but for grown-ups! Pretending helps us imagine different situations so we can figure out what might happen and what we should do. In a scenario test, we imagine a situation that could happen in real life, and then we act it out.

For example, let's imagine that you're planning to cross a busy street. In a scenario test, we might pretend that we're standing at the edge of the street and we're about to cross. We'd have to use our imaginations to see the cars whizzing by, and we'd talk about what things we need to do to be safe. We might pretend to listen for the sound of the cars, look both ways before crossing, and hold hands with an adult. Then we'd practice crossing the street carefully, just like in real life.

Scenario tests can be used to practice all kinds of skills. We might pretend to be doctors, firefighters, or police officers and practice what we would do in an emergency situation. We might practice standing up to a bully or making new friends. We might even practice talking to someone we have a crush on!

Scenario tests help us prepare for real-life situations by giving us a chance to practice what we would do. By acting out different scenarios, we can learn how to handle situations in the way that is safe, kind, and effective.
