ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scenic design

Scenic design is like creating a picture book for a play or a movie. Just like how you have a fun storybook with bright colors and exciting pictures, scenic design helps the story in a play or movie come to life with all sorts of exciting details.

Now, when you go see a play or movie, you might not notice all the work that went into making the background and setting look the way it does. But trust me, a lot of work goes into it!

Scenic designers are like artists who create the background for the actors to act out the story. It's their job to think about the setting and how it fits in with the story, so that when you're watching the play or movie, it doesn't seem out of place.

They might draw sketches of the different scenes in the play or movie and then build models of what the scene will look like. They might also paint, create props, and even design costumes to match the setting.

So, picture your favorite storybook but instead of just reading it, you get to see it on a stage or screen, filled with vibrant colors and magical landscapes. That's what scenic design is all about!
