ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Schola Antiqua, Madrid

Schola Antiqua is a group of people in Madrid who love music that was made a very long time ago. They think the music from many years ago is super special and they want to make sure it doesn't get forgotten.

These people pretend they are like musicians who lived many, many years ago, even before your grandpa was born! They use special instruments, like pipes and harps, and sing in a language that's not spoken anymore. They want to make sure the music sounds exactly like it did back then, so they study and practice a lot. They listen to recordings of other people who studied the old music too, and they try to copy how the music sounded.

Sometimes, the Schola Antiqua musicians play at concerts or in special places, like museums or churches. They hope that people who listen to their music will think it's beautiful, even though it sounds very different from the songs you hear on the radio today.

That's a bit about Schola Antiqua! They're special people in Madrid who love to play music like it was many, many years ago.
