ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scottish coinage

Scottish coinage is a way that people in Scotland used to buy things a long time ago. When you go to the store, you use money to buy things you want. Scottish coinage was like money in Scotland.

Coins are made of metal and have special designs on them. Think of coins like stickers that you can use to buy things. Each coin has a different value, or amount, of money. Like how a big sticker is worth more than a small sticker.

Hundreds of years ago, Scotland used to have their own special coins. They looked different from the coins we use today. The Scottish coins had pictures of kings and queens and other important Scottish symbols on them.

People in Scotland could use these coins to buy things like food or clothes. Just like how you use money today to buy things you want.

But now, Scotland doesn't have its own coins anymore. They use the same coins and money that the rest of the United Kingdom uses. Scottish people can still use special Scottish banknotes, which have pictures of famous Scottish people and places on them.
