ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scottish wrestling

Scottish wrestling is a sport where two people try to pin each other down to the ground. It's kind of like playing the game "mercy" with your friends - the goal is to make the other person's shoulders touch the ground.

In Scottish wrestling, the wrestlers wear special pants called "trews" that are made out of a heavy canvas material. This helps them grip onto each other better and makes it harder for their opponent to get away.

When the match starts, the wrestlers stand facing each other with their hands clasped together. They try to push each other backwards and sideways, trying to throw their opponent off balance. If one of them manages to get the other person off balance, they can try to trip them up or lift them off the ground to pin them down.

The wrestlers are judged on their skill, technique, and strength. The match is over when one wrestler pins the other down to the ground for three seconds without them being able to get up.

Scottish wrestling has been around for a very long time - it's been part of Scottish culture for hundreds of years! It's still a popular sport today, and there are competitions and events all over Scotland where wrestlers can show off their skills and compete against each other.
