Scouring (textiles)

When we want to clean our clothes or sheets or any other fabric, we use something called washing. But sometimes even after washing, there are still some stains or dirt left on the fabric. To make it really clean, we use something called scouring.

Scouring is like giving a really good scrub to the fabric using special chemicals and machines. These chemicals and machines help to remove the stubborn stains and dirt that we can't see with our eyes.

You know how we use soap to wash our hands or bodies? Scouring is like using a super soap but for fabric. Imagine your clothes or sheets are very dirty and have lots of germs and bacteria on them. Scouring helps to remove all of those germs and bacteria and make the fabric super clean.

So next time you see your mom or dad or anyone else in your family using a washing machine or a special detergent, remember that they might be scouring the fabric to make it extra clean!
