ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Secondary suite

A secondary suite is like having a secret hideout house inside your regular house! It's a special part of your house that can be used as a separate living space, for example for your grandma or cousin or for renters to live in. They can have their own bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen, and share some parts of the house, like the front door or the laundry room.

But, just like a secret hideout, you have to follow some special rules to have a secondary suite. Your local government has regulations that say how big it can be, where it can be located in your house, and what kinds of safety features it needs to have. They want to make sure that it's safe for the people who live there and that it doesn't cause any problems for your neighbors or the environment.

So, if you want to have a secondary suite, you have to make sure you follow the rules and get permission from your local government first. But if you do it right, it can be a great way to share your home with someone else and make a little bit of extra money!
