Secrecy of correspondence means that whatever you send out (like a letter or an email) will only be seen by the people you want it to be seen by. Nobody else can get it unless you give them permission. So if you write something to your friend and you don't want anyone else to see it, you can keep it a secret by making sure no one else can read it.
