ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Selective prosecution

Selective prosecution means that a person is only being punished by the law because of a particular reason, like their race or religion, rather than because they actually did something wrong. This is like if a teacher only punished kids with blue shoes for talking in class, but not kids with red shoes who did the same thing.

This is not fair because people should be punished based on what they did, not just because of who they are or what they believe in. Selective prosecution goes against the idea of equality under the law which means that everyone should be treated equally, no matter who they are or what they believe in.
