Semiconductor devices are tiny things that can be used to make things like computers, cell phones, and other electronics. To make these tiny devices, we use a process called semiconductor device fabrication. This process starts with making a thin slice of semiconductor material called a "wafer". The wafer has very tiny patterns of transistors, wires, and other electronic components etched onto it. Then, many layers of special materials are added on top, and the layers are heat-treated to permanently attach them onto the wafer. The end result is a tiny device that looks like a little piece of computer chip.
