Okay kiddo, have you ever felt like some things are just too loud or too bright? Or maybe some things feel weird on your skin or make you really uncomfortable? Well, some people feel that way all the time, and it's called Sensory Processing Disorder, or SPD for short.
The Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation is a group of grown-ups who work together to help people with SPD feel more comfortable in their daily lives. They do this by helping us understand why we might feel uncomfortable with certain things, and by giving us strategies to deal with those uncomfortable feelings.
For example, they might teach you that wearing headphones or earplugs can help block out too much noise, or that chewing gum can help you feel calmer. They might also teach you some special exercises or games to help you feel more comfortable with different types of textures or movements.
Basically, the foundation helps people with SPD better understand why their bodies feel the way they do and gives them tools to help them feel more comfortable and in control.
