ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Seppuku

Seppuku is something that was done a long time ago in Japan. It is a very serious thing that a person might do if they feel very bad or guilty about something they have done.

It involves using a special sword to make a big cut on your own belly, which can be very painful and dangerous. The reason for doing this is because people used to believe that this was a way to show that you were sorry for what you had done and that you were willing to take responsibility for it.

Seppuku is not something that people usually do now, and it is definitely not something that you should ever think about doing. It is very important to talk to people if you are feeling sad, angry or guilty, and to get help from someone you trust like a parent, teacher, or doctor.
