Septic equation

Okay kiddo, the septic equation is a math formula that shows how waste is broken down in a septic tank. You know how when you go potty, the icky stuff goes into the toilet and gets flushed away? Well, in some homes, that potty stuff goes into a big tank underground called a septic tank.

Inside the septic tank, bacteria (really tiny living things) help to break down the waste. They eat it up and turn it into things called gases and sludge. The gases float to the top of the tank and the sludge sinks to the bottom.

The septic equation helps people figure out how long it will take for the bacteria to break down all the waste in the tank. It takes into account things like how much waste is going into the tank, the temperature outside, and how many bacteria are in the tank.
