Septic tank

A septic tank is a big, underground tank where all the waste water from your house goes. It's connected to your sink, toilet and even your washing machine or dishwasher. The waste water from all of these goes into the septic tank. Inside the tank, bacteria break down the waste water and all of the solids in it. Once the tank is full and the bacteria are done breaking things down, the waste water is then released from the septic tank and moved to another part of your property, called the drain field. This is where the remaining clean water is released back into the ground.
