Serial over LAN is like having a really long telephone cord that connects your computer to another computer or device far away. Just like you can talk to someone far away over the phone, your computer can talk to that other device far away through this long cord. But instead of talking with your voice, your computer sends information in a special language that the other device can understand. This special language is called serial data. By using serial over LAN, you can control that other device from your computer even if it's not physically near you, just like how you can talk to someone far away over the phone.
