Seston

Seston is basically a bunch of small things swimming or floating around in water. Imagine you are in a pool and you have tiny toys that you can throw in the water. These toys are like seston.

The seston in water can be food for fish and other small living things in the water. Just like you want your broccoli and carrots to grow, living things in water need food to grow too.

Scientists can study seston by looking at a small sample of water and counting how many tiny things are swimming or floating around in it. This helps them understand how healthy the water is and what kind of living things are able to survive in it.

Think of seston like a tiny city of living things in the water. It's an important part of the ecosystem in lakes, rivers, and oceans!
