Marine snow

Okay kiddo, so have you ever been swimming in the ocean and saw all these tiny little things floating around you? That's what we call marine snow. It's not actually made up of snowflakes, but it kind of looks like it because they're all white and fluffy.

Marine snow is made up of lots of different things, like dead animals and plants, poop from animals, and tiny little pieces of food. These things sink down deeper into the ocean and create a sort of "snowstorm" effect.

But why is marine snow important? Well, it actually provides food for lots of creatures that live deeper in the ocean, like sea anemones and crabs. Plus, when the marine snow sinks down to the bottom of the ocean, it helps to add nutrients to the soil which helps plants grow.

So the next time you see all that stuff floating around you while you're swimming, just remember that it's not really snow - it's actually an important part of the ocean's ecosystem!
