Seven Species

Hey kiddo! Do you know what species means? Ok, let me explain. Species means a group of animals, plants, or living things that share similar characteristics and can mate with each other to make babies. So, when we say seven species, we are talking about seven different living things that are really important in a special place called Israel.

Now, let me tell you more about these seven species. They are wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates. These are all plants that grow in Israel and they are really special because they are mentioned in a book called the Bible. This book is very important to many people because it tells the story of their religion and their history.

People in Israel have been growing these seven species for thousands of years because they are very tasty and can be used to make yummy food. For example, wheat and barley can be used to make bread, grapes can be used to make wine, figs and pomegranates are used in many desserts, and olives are used to make olive oil which is really good for you.

In Israel, there is a holiday called Tu B'Shvat where people celebrate these seven species by eating foods that use them and by planting more of them. It's a really fun holiday and everyone gets to enjoy the delicious food that these special plants provide. So, now you know all about the seven species, isn't it cool?
