ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sex education curriculum

Hey kiddo! So, sex education curriculum is when adults teach young people about things like reproduction, bodies, and how to make decisions about sex. It's important because learning about these things can help keep us healthy and safe when we grow up.

When we're very little, we start learning about our bodies and gender. We might learn that boys have penises and girls have vaginas, and that there are different ways to express gender. As we get older, we learn more about how our bodies work, like what happens during puberty and how babies are made. We also learn about how to protect ourselves from things like sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancy.

Different places have different sex education curriculums, but they usually include information about healthy relationships, consent, and ways to make responsible decisions about sex. Some curriculums might also include information about LGBTQ+ identities and experiences.

It's normal to feel kinda uncomfortable or embarrassed about talking about sex - but it's important to remember that it's a natural part of life, and getting good information can help us be confident and make smart choices. And the grown-ups who teach sex education are there to answer our questions and help us feel comfortable.
