The sex offender registry is a list of people who have been convicted of doing very bad things related to sex, like touching another person inappropriately or sexually assaulting someone. This list helps police and other people in charge of keeping us safe to know who these people are and where they live so that they can keep an eye on them and make sure they don't hurt anyone else. When someone is found guilty of one of these crimes, they have to tell the government where they live and they might have to check in with people who make sure they are following the rules. It's important to remember that not everyone on the sex offender registry is a bad person now, but they did do something really wrong before and need to follow some extra rules to make sure they don't do it again.
