ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sexual jealousy

Well kiddo, sometimes grown-ups get worried and upset when they think that someone they care about (like a boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse) might like someone else more than they like them. That feeling is called "sexual jealousy."

It's kind of like if you had a favorite toy that you really liked, and then your friend played with it a lot and you started to worry that they might like it more than you do. You might feel jealous or upset because you really love that toy and don't want to share it with anyone else.

The same thing can happen with grown-ups and their partners. They might worry that their partner is attracted to someone else or spending too much time with someone else. They might feel like their partner doesn't love them as much as they used to.

But it's important to remember that everyone feels jealous sometimes, and it's okay to talk about your feelings with your partner or someone you trust. And if you're feeling jealous, it doesn't necessarily mean that your partner is doing anything wrong - it's just a feeling that you're having.
