Sexual script theory

Sexual script theory is a way of understanding how people learn about sexual behavior. It suggests that people learn what is considered normal and expected sexual behavior from the messages they get from society. These messages come from books, TV, movies, the internet, conversations, and other sources. We can think of them like scripts—like scripts for a play—where there are rules for how people are supposed to act. People usually follow these scripts, and if someone does something outside of them it can be seen as strange or wrong.
