ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shahidka

Hello! So, shahidka is a word that comes from Arabic and means "female martyr" in English. A martyr is someone who dies for their beliefs or for a cause they believe in. In some cultures and beliefs, being a martyr is considered a very honorable thing, because the person is sacrificing their life for something they believe in strongly. It is like when you are playing a game with your friends, and you decide to give up your turn so that someone else can have a better chance at winning. Except being a shahidka is much more serious and important because it involves risking your life for your beliefs. It is important to remember, however, that hurting or killing others is never a good thing, and that there are other ways to stand up for what you believe in that do not involve violence.
