ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shared disk access

Imagine you have a big toy box that all of your friends can play with at the same time. That's kind of like how shared disk access works!

Usually, when you use a computer, the files you work on are stored on your own computer. But with shared disk access, multiple computers can access and work on the same files at the same time. It's like a bunch of kids playing with the same big toy box - everyone can take out toys and play with them as they please!

The way shared disk access works is that there's a big storage area called a "disk" where all the files are kept. Then, multiple computers can connect to that disk and "read" or "write" files to it. It's kind of like how you might all play with toys from the big toy box, but you wouldn't take any of the toys home with you. The toys stay in the box for everyone to share!

Shared disk access is used a lot in companies and organizations where lots of people need to work on the same files. For example, imagine if you and all your classmates were working on a big project together. Instead of sending files back and forth between everyone's computers, you could all just access the same file on a shared disk! It makes working together much easier and more efficient.
