ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shift space

Okay kiddo, imagine you are playing a game of basketball. You dribble the ball down the court and then pass it to your friend. Your friend catches the ball and then takes a step to the side before they shoot the ball into the hoop. This step to the side is kind of like a shift space.

In computer terms, a shift space is a special button on a keyboard that you can press at the same time as the space bar. When you press the shift space, it makes the space bigger than normal so it looks like there are two spaces instead of one.

This can be useful when you are typing something and you want to make the spaces between words a little bit bigger. Or, it can be used in programming to separate different parts of code to make it easier to read.

So, just like when you played basketball and your friend took a step to the side to make the shot easier, pressing the shift space button can make typing and reading easier too!
