ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shikata ga nai

"Shikata ga nai" is a Japanese phrase that means "it can't be helped" or "there is no other way to do it". Imagine you wanted to play outside and have fun, but it started raining really hard. You might be upset and say "shikata ga nai" because there's no other way to stop the rain and you can't play outside. It's like saying "oh well, nothing we can do about it". It's a way to accept things that are out of your control and move on.
