Shiokara

Shiokara is a yummy snack that comes from Japan. It's made from little pieces of fish that are cut up and mixed with some salt and a special sauce. People in Japan really like to eat it with rice or on top of crackers.

Now, here's the fun part. When the fish is mixed with salt and the sauce, it starts to ferment. Fermenting means it starts to change into something different. You know when you leave milk out for too long and it tastes funny? That's because it ferments.

In the case of shiokara, the fermentation gives it a really strong, salty, and sour taste. Some people say it smells really strong too, but others love the smell because it reminds them of the ocean.

So if you're feeling adventurous and want to try something new, give shiokara a try! Just be prepared for the strong taste and smell.
