Ship naming and launching

Okay kiddo, whenever a big, new ship is built, it’s kind of like a baby being born! And just like how your parents spent a lot of time thinking of a name for you, the people who build ships also have to choose a special name for it.

Sometimes ships are named after important people in history, like presidents or explorers. Other times, they’re named after important places or things like cities, mountains, or even flowers! It all depends on what the people who built the ship want to honor or represent.

Once the ship has a name, it’s time to launch it! This means the ship will be moved from the place it was built to the water where it will live and sail. Sometimes, this is done by slowly sliding the ship down a ramp into the water, and other times, the ship is lifted off the ground by big machines and lowered into the water.

The launching of a ship is a pretty big deal and lots of people will come to watch! Once the ship is in the water, it’s like it’s officially alive and ready to start its journey. It’s important that everything goes smoothly during the launch so that the ship is safe and ready to sail for many years to come!
