ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shroud

Okay kiddo, so imagine that you have a special blanket that you love very much. You like to snuggle with it when you're feeling scared or sleepy.

Now imagine that instead of a blanket, someone had a big sheet, almost like a ghost costume, that they wrapped someone's body in after they died. This sheet is called a shroud.

People have been using shrouds for a very long time, because it's a way to show respect for someone who has died. It's kind of like wrapping them up in a cozy blanket, but it's also a way to make sure their body doesn't get hurt or damaged before they're buried or cremated.

So that's what a shroud is, a special sheet that people use to wrap someone up when they die.
