Sickle

Have you ever seen a banana shaped like a crescent moon? A sickle is a tool that looks like that crescent moon banana, but instead of being made to peel fruit, it's made to cut tall grass or crops like wheat.

Sometimes people talk about sickle-shaped red blood cells. These are different from the tool sickle.

Our bodies have something called red blood cells. They are really important because they carry oxygen around our body. Normally, red blood cells are round and plump like little balls. But some people have a condition called sickle cell anemia. It means their red blood cells look like sickles, or crescent moons, instead of balls.

This can cause problems because the sickle-shaped cells can clog up tiny blood vessels and make it harder for oxygen to travel around the body properly. That can make the person feel really sick with a lot of pain.

So, the tool sickle can be helpful for farmers, but sickle-shaped red blood cells are something we want to help people with because they can cause health problems.
