ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Signal passed at danger

Okay kiddo, imagine you're playing with your toy train set, and you have a red light that tells your trains to stop. Well, imagine you're driving a real train and you see a red light, but you keep going anyway. That's what we call a "signal passed at danger."

You see, train drivers have to follow signals to keep themselves and the other people on the train safe. If they see a red light, they have to stop and wait until the signal changes before they can keep going. But sometimes, a train driver might accidentally go past the red light, which is very dangerous.

When a train driver passes a signal at danger, it can cause a lot of problems. For example, they might end up on the same train track as another train, or they might hit something on the track that they didn't see. That's why it's very important that train drivers always pay attention to the signals and follow them closely.

In order to prevent signal passed at danger, train companies and engineers have developed a lot of safety systems. One of these systems is called Automatic Train Protection (ATP), which can automatically stop a train if it goes past a red signal. This helps keep everyone safe and prevents accidents from happening.

So there you have it, kiddo. Just like you have to follow the rules with your toy train set, train drivers have to follow the signals to keep people safe. And if they accidentally pass a red signal, it can be very dangerous, but there are systems in place to prevent it from happening.
