Sin Eater

Okay kiddo, so you know how when someone dies, we have a funeral? Well, a long time ago, some people believed that when someone died, their spirit couldn't move on to the afterlife until all their sins (bad things they did) were forgiven.

But what if someone did really bad things and nobody wanted to forgive them? That's where the sin eater comes in. They were a person who would eat a special meal that was thought to take away the dead person's sins. It was kind of like taking medicine to make you feel better.

The sin eater would come to the funeral and the family would pay them to eat the special meal over the dead person's body. The idea was that the sin eater would take on the dead person's sins so they could move on to the afterlife without anything holding them back.

Nowadays, we don't believe in sin eaters anymore and we have different ways of forgiving people and helping them move on after they die. But it's interesting to learn about how people used to do things a long time ago.
