ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Single instruction, multiple data

Single instruction, multiple data (SIMD) is a way for computers to do multiple things at once. Imagine getting two separate jobs: one to sweep the floor, and one to mop. When you do SIMD, it's like getting a broom AND a mop, and then working on both jobs at the same time. This way, it takes less time to finish both jobs than if you did them one at a time. SIMD makes computers work faster by allowing them to do multiple things at once.
