ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ski mountaineering

Ski mountaineering is like a super fun adventure up a really big snowy mountain. You put on some special boots and funny looking skis that can go in both directions - up and down. When you go up the mountain, it's called skinning because the bottom of your skis have a special fuzzy cling-on layer that sticks to the snow and helps you climb up. You also use some sticks with pointy ends called ski poles to push yourself forward and balance. But when you get to the top of the mountain, it's time to ski down. You take off the cling-on layer on the bottom of your skis and slide down the mountain super fast. You need to be really careful and do crazy turns to avoid trees and rocks and other things that might get in your way. Ski mountaineering is a really cool way to see the world from high up and feel like you're on top of the world!
