ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Skiffing

Skiffing is like rowing a boat, but instead of using two oars (or paddles), you only use one. The boat you use for skiffing is called a skiff, and it's usually small and flat.

When you skiff, you sit facing the direction you want to go, and you use one oar to paddle on one side of the boat. Then you switch to the other side of the boat and use the same oar to paddle on the other side. This keeps the boat moving forward in a straight line.

Skiffing is usually done on calm water, like a river or a lake, and it can be a fun way to explore the outdoors and get some exercise. Some people even compete in skiffing races!

But remember, if you want to go skiffing, you should always wear a life jacket and make sure you know how to swim, just in case you fall out of the boat.
