ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Slavery in Ireland

Slavery is when one person forces another person to work for them without their permission or without paying them fairly. This used to happen in Ireland a long time ago.

Back then, people who were captured or kidnapped from other countries were sold into slavery in Ireland. They had to work for their masters without any pay or chance to leave. This was really unfair, as people should be free to choose what they want to do, and not be forced into working for someone else.

There were also Irish people who were slaves in their own country. Some were captured in battles or raids and were made to work for whoever won the battle. This was very sad, because they were not able to live their lives the way they wanted to.

Eventually, over time, people began to speak out against slavery and worked to end it. Today, there are legal protections for people against slavery and it is illegal in Ireland and many other countries around the world. Everyone deserves to be free and have the right to choose what they want to do with their lives.
