Slavery in Latin America

Slavery in Latin America was a system by which people were considered property and were forced to work for another person or business. It was common in the 1800s and some places, like Cuba, practiced it until 1886. Slavery was abusive and dehumanizing and meant that people were taken away from their families, not paid for their work, and treated poorly. This had a pretty negative effect on Latin American countries which are still dealing with the damage it caused.
