ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Slavery in ancient Rome

Slavery in ancient Rome was when people were owned by other people and were treated like property. Slaves worked for their masters (the people who owned them) and had no rights. Slaves could not marry, own property, or make any decisions about their own lives. They could be bought and sold, and had to do whatever their master told them to do. Slaves were often captured in war, or taken as prisoners and sold into slavery.
