ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Small caps

Small caps are like the smaller version of words in a book. Imagine you have a big book with big and small words. Some of the words are BIG and some of them are small. You can see them better when they are different sizes, right? Small caps work the same way on a page.

Small caps are text in which all of the letters are the same height, but they are smaller than the other words on the page. So, instead of "HELLO WORLD" you might write "Hello World" with the "H" and "W" bigger than the other letters.

People use small caps in design to make certain words or phrases stand out, to create visual interest, and to create a more balanced look. Small caps are often used in logos, headings, and captions because they draw attention to specific text.
