Sodium bicarbonate rocket

Okay kiddo, first let's talk about what sodium bicarbonate is. Have you ever made a cake or a volcano with baking soda? Well, sodium bicarbonate is another name for baking soda - it's a powdery substance that can help things rise and bubble up.

Now imagine we put that powder into a container with some other stuff, and then we added vinegar or lemon juice. What would happen? That's right, it would start fizzing and bubbling!

The same thing happens in a sodium bicarbonate rocket. Instead of vinegar or lemon juice, we mix the sodium bicarbonate with something called a "propellant" - a type of fuel that can burn and create gas to push the rocket forward.

We put the mixture into a plastic tube and add a little bit of water. When the water mixes with the sodium bicarbonate and the propellant, it creates lots of gas really quickly - just like when you mix baking soda and vinegar.

This gas builds up so much pressure that it pushes the rocket up into the air! So that's how a sodium bicarbonate rocket works - it's like a science experiment that helps us learn about the properties of different materials and fuels. Cool, huh?
