ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sogdian language

Well, kiddo, the Sogdian language is a type of language that people used to speak a long time ago. It comes from a place called Sogdiana, which was in Central Asia.

Imagine you and your friends all speak a language, like English or Spanish. People in Sogdiana used to speak Sogdian.

What's really cool about Sogdian is that it's a very old language. People haven't used it for many, many years. But we can still learn about it because people wrote things down in Sogdian a long time ago, kind of like when you write something down in a notebook.

Even though we can't speak Sogdian anymore, people who study languages can read and understand what was written. They can learn about the words and grammar and even some of the culture of the people who spoke Sogdian.

So, even though it's an old language we don't use anymore, it's still important because it helps us understand the history of Central Asia and the people who lived there a long time ago.
