ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Soil pollution

Soil is like a big blanket that covers the earth's surface. It helps plants grow and provides a home for animals. But sometimes, things that are not good for the soil get mixed in with it. This is called soil pollution.

Soil pollution can happen in many ways. One way is when people throw trash on the ground instead of putting it in the trash can. The trash can break down and mix with the soil, making it dirty and not good for plants to grow in.

Another way soil pollution happens is when people use chemicals like pesticides and herbicides on plants. These chemicals can seep into the soil and make it not good for plants to grow in. This means that the plants won't grow as well and may not be healthy to eat.

Other things that can cause soil pollution include oil spills, industrial waste, and even mining. All of these things can make the soil dirty and not good for plants and animals to live in.

Soil pollution is bad because it can harm the environment. It can make it hard for plants and animals to survive, and it can even make people and animals sick. That's why it's important to take care of the soil and make sure that we don't do things that can cause pollution. This means putting our trash in the right place, being careful with chemicals, and finding ways to clean up pollution when it does happen.
