ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Solar System model

Hey kiddo, do you know what is a solar system? It is a space where the sun and all the other planets, moons, asteroids and comets are located. They all move around the sun in circular paths, just like how you move around your school or playground.

Now, let's talk about the solar system model. Imagine a basketball in your hand. Now, imagine that it is the sun, the center of the solar system. Around it, you can put a few objects like small toy cars or balls. Each of these objects represents a planet in our solar system.

The first planet closest to the sun is Mercury, represented by the smallest toy car that you can find. The next planet is Venus, which is a little bigger than Mercury, so you can use an orange in place of the toy car. The third planet is Earth, which is even bigger than Venus, so you can use a tennis ball for it.

Moving on to the fourth planet, Mars is the next one from the sun and you can use a golf ball to represent it. The fifth planet is Jupiter, which is really big, so you can use a big beach ball to represent it. The sixth planet is Saturn, which is known for its iconic rings. You can use a hula hoop or a toy ring to represent this planet.

Next is the seventh planet, Uranus. You can use a small inflated ball like a volleyball to represent it. Finally, there is Neptune, represented by another volleyball.

These toys are all placed in a circle around the "sun" in your hand, with the smallest planet, Mercury, closest to the sun and the biggest planet, Jupiter, furthest away.

Well, congratulations! Now you have created a solar system model. Isn't it cool to have your own little solar system in your hand?
