The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America was an important document that declared that the 13 colonies in North America were now independent from Britain. The Declaration was written by Thomas Jefferson and was approved by the delegates of the 13 colonies in 1776. The Declaration said that the colonies had the right to govern themselves and that they were free and independent states. It said that the colonies would fight for their freedom and defend their rights. The Declaration was signed by delegates from all of the colonies, and it was a solemn and serious act that started the American Revolution and eventually led to the creation of the United States of America.
